Reclaiming Wild
The last time Elke and I had an adventure together was in June 2009, when we were training for Coast2Coast and learning how to paddle down the Mohaka River. Fast forward 15yrs, several different jobs, partners - Liam and John - weddings, a couple of children, a dog and several haircuts later and here we are, boarding a flight to Queenstown with two bike boxes and an itinerary that smells of adventure.

Frankie’s Adventure
I kept hearing myself say, “I really want to do that one day” and realised that “one day” only depended on me finding the courage to take the leap.

Eighteen Remote Islands
While this is almost as far away from New Zealand as we could get, we had been drawn in by internet images of remote roads surrounded by breathtaking scenery. “Is this the ultimate cycling location?” I wondered. With this excitement, I had devised a route connecting roads and trails, to explore as many of the 18 islands as possible. It soon became clear, however, that our entire trip hinged on the ability to cross the fjords via the undersea tunnel network.

Therm-A-Rest Sleeping Pad & Bag
February 3, 2025
My wife and I spent six months cycle touring through Europe, pre-kids. It was our first trip of the sort and we had to buy a lot of gear in a short amount of time. In an effort to save space, we opted for fairly minimal sleeping pads. A few nights into the trip, I knew we had made a mistake.
MSR Tent & Switch Stove
January 27, 2025
The first time I did my ‘practice pack’, when I rode Tour Aotearoa a few years ago, I realised that taking a tent was going to be a bit of a pain. Why? My tent poles were much longer than my handlebar roll, so I would need to strap them on separately. Why couldn’t someone make tent poles that bit shorter?

The only thing that is constant is change, and the cycling industry epitomises this principle. The reasons behind change are varied but fundamentally it's about innovation.
